Rare Beauty Glow Up

by Sarah

Aside from some classic Fenty favorites, I’ve admittedly been quite sceptical of celebrity owned beauty brands. I feel it’s yet again turned into a trend in an industry that was already quite saturated.

So to say I’ve been a bit snobbish and didn’t pay much attention to Rare Beauty would be accurate.Β That is, until recently…thanks to my very particular expectations when it comes to highlighters…

Rare Beauty Glow Up

For me personally, highlighters should meld in with our skin regardless of whether they’re powder, liquid or cream formula.
They should blend seamlessly with a soft hue (of whatever undertone the color is) and preferably set and not move…til I take it off.
No glitters or obvious sparkles either; just a beautiful soft shimmer that I can build up if I choose to.

One swatch of Rare Beauty highlighters peaked my interest like no other, first time in a very long time.

So I picked up two powder highlighters and one liquid highlighter to begin with…

Rare Beauty Powder Highlighters in Exhilarate, Flaunt and Liquid Highlighter in Flaunt

The powders are so amazingly smooth that they don’t even look or feel like powder. The pigment is insanely concentrated which means the tiniest amount is enough to cover the whole face. The colors are subtle enough to add a hue but not glaringly obvious, which is great for achieving that more natural look.

I went for the shades Exhilarate and Flaunt which compliment the undertones of my skin. Exhilarate is slightly more champagne gold which helps me achieve a brighter look. Flaunt has a soft warmer undertone which I prefer over bronzed or warmer blush looks.

The liquid version is just as gorgeous as the powders. The bottle has a big doe foot applicator. It looks a bit like a giant lip gloss bottle.

I opted for the shade Flaunt again. It looks like a deeper bronze in the bottle but it’s much softer and lighter on application.

It blends like a dream with a brush, sponge or fingers. It also provides a seamless finish which melts into the skin and sets without moving or smudging. This makes it a great product to use as an eyeshadow too.

Rare Beauty Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter & Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlighter

Shortly after my successful purchases, Rare Beauty released a limited edition Blush & Glow, mini blush/highlighter set for the holidays.

Having heard good things about their liquid blushes, and already loving the liquid highlighter formula, I added this set to cart in a heartbeat…

The bottles are much smaller than I imagined, however the formula is so pigmented, I know they will last a long time regardless.

The color combination is really pretty too. The blushes give a good variety between a dirty peach and a deep rosy pink, whilst the highlighters are a soft champagne and a pink. Great to mix and match and layer over each other to create different color stories.

The blushes can also be used on the lips which I’ve been doing since I got them. They set and wear really well, without the dry, crackly feeling of traditional liquid lipsticks.

I adore this little kit, so if you’re looking to add to your Rare Beauty collection, try Rare Beauty products for the first time or gift to your loved ones, this is a perfect little set.

AFTER ALL THAT…

Last product is a bonus I decided to add to this post but I won’t be singing its praises as much…

It’s an under eye brightener which has a blend of light reflecting shimmers and a touch of concealer.
*Think YSL Touche Eclat with a little more coverage.

Rare Beauty Positive Light Under Eye Brightener in Medium

Although I like the formula, this product didn’t give me the finish that I was hoping for.
This is predominantly due to the darkness and puffiness I tend to get from time to time.; so if you don’t have such issues, then you’ll probably appreciate this product more.

The wand has a cooling metal tip applicator. Whilst I can understand the massaging/de-puffing function of such an applicator, it doesn’t grab enough product from the tube.

I loved all the other products I purchased from Rare Beauty but this one is a “meh” for me, unless I figure out a better way to make it work.
*I would recommend you try it in store or get a sample before committing to a full bottle.

I’ll continue to keep an eye on upcoming product releases from Rare Beauty as I’m pleasantly surprised about the quality of everything else I’ve tried so far.
