Kevyn Aucoin Neo Bronzer

by Sarah

You know the way some products jump at you as soon as you see it, and then discover it’s by one of your favorite brands and the rest is history? Well, that’s exactly what happened the second I saw the Neo Bronzer by Kevyn Aucoin.

I did my best to photograph this beauty so I could do justice to how stunning it is. Combined with its silky smooth texture and amazing color payoff, there’s only one thing I can confidently say: this one is a must!

Kevyn Aucoin Neo Bronzer is a gradient palette meaning the color of the product merges seamlessly from one shade to the other. In fact this type of “gradient” powder products have been surfacing from different brands of late.

The Neo Bronzer however is the first one I personally know of which gradients from highlight to blush to bronzer – instead of a blush/bronzer simply merging from light to dark of a “single color”.

Something else that makes this palette stand out is the sheer size of it. You get 0.74oz/21g of product which is quite substantial.

The bronzer is cased in Kevyn Aucoin’s signature bordeaux colored compact with matte gold external packaging. There’s a full size mirror inside the lid. As soon as you hold this palette in your hand, you can pretty much feel the quality.

There are two shades of Neo Bronzers available. The one I have is Siena which includes a warm champagne highlighter which merges into a peachy coral blush which merges into a warm brown bronzer.

The other color is called Capri. The bronzer and highlighter portion of it is pretty much the same but the middle blush color is a rosy pink. So, if you’re more into the cooler, pink tones, you might prefer Capri. *picture at the end of the post

The texture feels like silk! Seriously, it’s possibly the softest pressed powder product I’ve ever felt. All the colors have great payoff so a quick dab with a brush picks up plenty of product to work with.

The idea of gradient products is that you can either use the colors individually or swipe your brush over them for an even blend of all shades. I personally use the products individually picking up as much or little of each shade as I prefer.

Although the palette is made up of three different colors, I find all three colors have similar undertones. I think this is due to the merging from one color to the other. The bronzer end is definitely a warm tan/brown; it’s a subtle satin finish. The blush component is a beautiful peachy coral and again, a very subtle satin finish. Last is of course the highlighter but a very subtle one. I would call it more of a soft glow than a highlighter. As a point of comparison, it’s definitely not as prominent as Becca Opal – and that’s a pretty subtle highlighter.

Also for comparison purposes, here’s the Neo Bronzer against Kevyn Aucoin’s cult favorite highlighter: Celestial Powder in Candlelight. You can see the size difference of the compacts. Some of you may be wondering how the two highlighter colors compare so I did a side by side swatch. Candlelight has a golden undertone, whereas the highlighter in the Siena Neo Bronzer definitely has a warm – almost a soft peachy champagne undertone.

I highly recommend the Neo Bronzer, both in terms of its amazing quality and performance. The versatility of having all your bronzer + blush + highlighter needs in the one compact is another bonus. Kevyn Aucoin Neo Bronzer retails at $58.
