Skincare Favorites for Glowing Skin
As with all my previous skincare posts, let me put out a disclaimer that skincare is very personal and I’m only sharing my own experiences with these products. Please consider doing your own research on all the products mentioned; and/or try sample or travel sizes as a starting point.
Lets start with a product that I recently returned to – after trying so many others in between, yet none of them wowed me as much…
I was first introduced to the Indie Lee line in Hawaii and I instantly felll in love!
Being clean beauty and made from organic ingredients, I bought up a storm including this Brightening Cleanser which has been my favorite since. What’s even better is that it doubles up as a mask.
The main ingredient in the Brightening Cleanser is strawberry seed oil known for its brightening properties. And the delicious scent of fresh strawberries hit you as soon as you pump the product out of the bottle.
Combined with antioxidants, this foaming gel formula not only removes makeup and residue, but also boosts the skin with vitamins A, B, C, E and K to continue the skincare benefits. It gives my skin that ‘squeaky clean” feel without stripping it. I definitely see an instant brightening and glow effect after each use. I also love that it doubles up as a mask.
Free of sulphates, parabens, phthalates and more, and being cruelty free and vegan, Indie Lee Brightening mask ticks all the boxes for me.
Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser retails at $34 for 4.2oz/125ml bottle
Toners have always been a part of my daily skincare routine. I appreciate the additional cleanse, especially on days where I wear full makeup.
I purchased the Ole Henriksen Glow Toner on a hunch. Although I’m extremely careful in the sun, between heat induced pigmentation spots and the pesky dark spots that occasional breakouts leave on my face, I got drawn to the title of “Dark Spot Toner”.
This toner contains quite a few active ingredients such as high-potency AHAs (Glycolic and Lactic acids), witch hazel which is renowned for being an effective toner all by itself; and soothing components such as Camomile and Sandalwood extracts
As the name suggests, this toner is designed to fade away dark spots – in as little as 7 days.
Add to that its ability to target fine lines, brighten the skin, even out skin tone and adding an instant glow all over the face, this product is an absolute must.
Ole Henriksen is also a cruelty free and clean brand free of all nasty chemicals.
Ole Heriksen Glow2OH Dark Spot Toner retails at $29 for the regular size (6.5oz/190ml); also available in a mini; and now a value size.
Paula’s Choice is such an underrated skincare brand. Given the extent of their range, amazing products and customer service to boot, I have no reservations recommending their products.
Although I have a few of their products in my skincare stash, this 2% BHA Liquid Daily Exfoliant has been my holy grail for almost 7 years. If I had to choose one product that I don’t wanna be without, it would be this. And I’m not the only one given it’s their #1 best seller worldwide.
This water-like BHA exfoliant contains 2% salicylic acid which is designed to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores and hence brightens and evens out skin tone.
Exfoliated skin not only reveals a healthy glow, but it also helps other products such as serums and moisturizers absorb better.
I use this BHA exfoliant every night and I can really feel the difference if I skip a few days, as my skin starts to look dull.
It keeps my skin fresh and glowing. The exfoliating properties really smooth out my skin texture and cleanses my pores. The brand is cruelty free and only uses prime ingredients
Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant retails at $29.50; and is also available in a travel size.
This product also comes in 1% BHA for more sensitive skin; as well as a gel formula.
While we’re on Paula’s Choice, another product that’s been a part of my nightly routine for couple of years now is the 10% Niacinamide Booster.
I’ll do a separate post on why I love Paula’s Choice Booster line, but for now let me sing the praises of this tiny yet powerful bottle…
Niacinamide is a Vitamin B3 derivative which is designed to brighten skin, even out skin tone and minimize pores.
Housed in a 20ml bottle with a dropper, the Niacinamide Booster is mixed in with your serums and moisturizers. You can adjust the amount depending on how your skin takes to the formula.
I saw the effects of this product pretty much after the first use waking up to smooth skin, tightened pores and overall brightness.
Paula’s Choice 10% Niacinamide Booster retails at $44; and comes in a more concentrated 25% formula – which I’ve recently purchased but haven’t tried yet. I will report back on it when I do the separate post on these Boosters.
Paula’s Choice also runs amazing specials and deals and you can purchase the 10% Niacinamide Booster and 2% BHA Exfoliant as a duo which is great value.
This serum is #1 Best Selling serum of all time worldwide and deserves the title. I was introduced to this serum almost 10 years ago and we’ve been inseparable since.
Unless my skin needs an extra boost of hydration where I incorporate heavier creams into my routine for a few days, I don’t use any other moisturizers or night creams other than the Advanced Night Repair Serum.
I prefer the lighter texture of serums, and the fact that they’re more concentrated and absorb better has always worked for me.
The key ingredient of Advanced Night Repair Serum is hyaluronic acid, which is renowned for its hydrating, moisture boosting abilities.
I feel this serum does it all. Anti ageing, hydrating, brightening, plumping…you name it, it delivers. I also love the texture which doesn’t feel heavy on my skin, yet layers beautifully with other products, such as the Paula’s Choice Boosters or any additional creams – should my skin require it.
Este Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum retails at $75 for 30ml bottle and is available in many other sizes. I usually get the best deals at department stores as they always offer gift-with-purchase deals, so you get to try other products from the range.
This Vitamin C serum is a new’ish addition to my skincare routine. I just started my second bottle and I usually use it as a daytime serum.
Vitamin C products are tricky with my skin as I reacted to many others before so I always approach it with caution. And I know many people are quite sensitive to Vitamin C in skincare products also. So I took a gamble with this serum but it did not disappoint.
If you wake up in the morning, and you don’t want to wear makeup, but still want an instant boost that makes your skin glow like you just had a professional grade facial…this is your product.
Containing the star ingredient Vitamin C, along with peptides and squalene, CC Me Serum brightens the skin, fades away dark spots and pigmentation and leaves a protective film over the skin to lock in moisture.
As soon as I apply this serum, my skin transforms into this hydrated, plump and naturally highlighted version of its pre-serum self.
This serum also makes an amazing primer under makeup as it preps the skin where the products somehow apply better and last longer. So many wins in such a tiny bottle.
Summer Fridays CC Me Serum retails at $64 for the standard 1fl oz/30ml bottle.
While we’re on the topic of Vitamin C, another product that does wonders for my skin – with instant glowing results is Fresh Beauty’s Vitamin Nectar Mask.
Think of orange marmalade in a jar, cos this mask is exactly that…with incredible skincare benefits of course.
As the subtitle on the packaging reads, this is a “Vibrancy Boosting” mask, and I can confidently vouch for it doing just that.
This is yet another one of those instant-result products and although I have so many favorites within the Fresh range, I reach for this particular mask quite often.
Containing 50% of crushed citrus fruits – which you can see in the jar, this mask is designed to boost skin’s radiance and glow after just one use, and continue to brighten and even the skin tone with regular use.
This mask really gives my skin a pick-me-up and the effects of it lasts for days. I can just see the overall brightening effect and my skin feels like silk. I use this mask whenever I want to pamper myself knowing I’m gonna get incredible results right away.
Fresh Vitamin Nectar Mask retails at $63 for the standard 3.3oz/100ml jar and is also available in travel size. Fresh Vitamin C line features many other amazing products such as serums, exfoliating powders and creams so check out the full range HERE
Last but not least is another Fresh product I love. The Sugar Face Polish was one of the first Fresh masks that I tried and I pretty much got hooked from that point on.
I’m including it in this post, especially if you’re hesitant to use a more active exfoliant such as Paula’s Choice BHA Liquid Exfoliant; but still want to incorporate a product that helps with buffing away dead skin.
Fresh Sugar Face Polish is a 2-in-1 exfoliator and a mask.
Containing a mixture of brown sugar and real strawberry seeds which gently exfoliates the skin, this mask also has plum seed and grapeseed oils which add hydration and a gorgeous glow to the skin.
The base formula of this mask is like a thick balm consistency so it makes it easier to buff the sugar and strawberry seed particles over the skin without getting too messy.
I love that this product is a 2-in-1 and it’s gentle enough for all skin types – or on days where I want to take a break from my more active-ingredient products.
Fresh Sugar Face Polish retails at $62 for the standard 4.4oz/125g jar, and it also comes in a mini size as pictured.
An everyday alternative to this mask is Fresh’s best selling Sugar Strawberry Exfoliating Face Wash. It’s a lighter version of this mask and can be used on a daily basis. And it smells divine…like a punnet of fresh strawberries.
So here we are beauties! My tried and tested glow-inducing skincare products which I enjoyed being a part of my routine for many years.
And whilst they may seem like a lot, I personally love customizing my products to suit my skin’s needs so I like having these different formulas at hand to mix and match as required.
I hope they help you discover your favorites and achieve your skin goals too.
