Dior ‘Diorskin Star’ Foundation

by Sarah

I can’t lie, I have a pretty large selection of foundations and many favorites amongst them but of course due to my job and my never ending curiosity to find the next “must have” product, my search never really ends.

So when I got news about Dior releasing a new foundation named Diorskin Star, and after reading some rave reviews from trusted sources, I thought I would give it a try myself. I’ve now had this foundation for couple of months and to say the least, I’m very VERY impressed.

In words of Dior: “Diorskin Star, Dior’s 1st brightening foundation: a weightless fluid capable of recreating the spectacular and perfecting light of Dior’s studios. The complexion is instantly more luminous and visibly more even. A new generation of hollow silica beads captures and diffuses light in a correcting halo with no shine.  At the same time, colour-filter pigments neutralize colour imbalances to recreate the perfect light. The complexion is purified and more dazzling.  Anti-“light-trap” skincare ingredients help reduce the appearance of dark areas, pigment spots and redness.”

Diorskin Star foundation comes in a 30ml/1fl.oz glass bottle. The bottle has a pump which always makes it easier and of course more hygienic. The Diorskin name embossed into the base of the pump gives this bottle an even more luxurious feel.

The foundation itself contains SPF30 which is a big plus. The texture is quite creamy but doesn’t feel heavy. It has a slight floral, almost rosy fragrance but it’s not overpowering at all. I bought shade #031 Sand which has a yellow undertone. It actually blends quite well with my NC35 skin tone. For those of you between an NC30-NC35, I would recommend to consider #030 Medium Beige just in case the #031 Sand may be a tad too warm for you.

The coverage is great and it really does brighten the skin and provides an even smooth finish. I don’t notice any oxidisation, if anything it adjusts to my skin tone once it settles.  The only warning I have is: it does take a bit more time and effort to apply this foundation. It needs to be blended and worked into the skin really well to get the full effect and its claims.

The very first time I used Diorskin Star, I applied it with a beauty blender. Unfortunately the tapping/dabbing motion of the sponge didn’t do much justice to the finish. Next time, I used my fingers and although the application was better than the sponge, I ended up using more product to achieve the coverage I wanted.

I found the best way this foundation applies is by using a dense bristled buffing foundation brush. In my case Real Techniques Expert Foundation brush was perfect. It really helped distribute and blend the product into my skin. That’s when I really achieved the coverage and the finish I was expecting.

I have an oily T-zone and I would recommend setting this foundation with a light dusting of translucent powder if you have oily skin. It doesn’t move about but it does get a little shiny after about 3-4 hours of wear. Other than that, Diorskin Star really is a very impressive foundation which lives up to all its claims and I highly recommend it if you’re after a new foundation.

Available in 15 shades, Diorskin Star retails at $50. Also available is the Diorskin Star Concealer at $36.
