Transform Your Skin with Estee Lauder

by Sarah

I constantly make reference to how important skincare is, so it’s a given that I don’t skip a beat when it comes to my skincare routine.

I don’t usually publish posts to recommend skincare products as it’s such a personal thing, but I’m making an exception due to the transforming results I’ve had since switching over to the Estee Lauder Skincare range…

Estee Lauder Skincare

I’d been on the same brand of skincare for almost 2 years when I started to notice things were getting a bit ‘stale’ and dull. My skin was fine but I knew it could be so much better in terms of radiance, tone and the overall look.

As I was searching through products from niche brands and those featured at Sephora, I met a lady who recommended I look into Estee Lauder.

Honestly, I kind of felt silly that Estee Lauder never even crossed my mind. I think we get so caught up in the hype of heavily “promoted” products on social media, that we forget there are classic brands which have dedicated decades to creating amazing products with the latest technology available.

As with many skincare brands, Estee Lauder has a capsule collection of products for each different skin type/need. You can either choose the full line of products from categories such as anti-aging, pore minimizing, brightening etc; or mix and match products to customize your skincare your routine.

Estee Lauder Skincare

So I made my way to the Estee Lauder counter at Nordstrom. I knew I wanted to try the best selling Advanced Night Repair Serum which is the star of Estee Lauder skincare range. I purchased that, along with the Advanced Night Repair Eye Cream as a starting point.

I also qualified for a gift-with-purchase pack which included other skincare products from the range. Trying those additional products helped me create the concoction of favorites from the brand, which I’m super happy with.

Our skin cells renew themselves while we sleep so it’s particularly important to give it a helping hand with products designed to enhance this process. I can forego daytime products but I will never skip my night time routine for this very reason.

Typically, my night time routine will consist of Cleansing, Toning, Eye Cream, Face Serum – followed by any specialty products as I’ll explain throughout the post.

Estee Lauder Perfectly Clean Skincare

Perfectly Clean Foam Cleanser/Purifying Mask: Whether I have makeup on or not, I always cleanse my skin at nights. I opted for this particular product, as it can double up as a cleanser or a mask which is a bonus. It removes all makeup, dirt and residue and doesn’t dry out the skin.

Perfectly Clean Multi Action Hydrating Toner: Some people don’t care for toners but no matter how well you cleanse the skin, wiping it with a cotton pad and toner always proves there’s still that tiny bit of something left behind. Toners also prep the skin for serum and moisturizers.

There are many other toners within the Estee Lauder Skincare range which you can check out here

Estee Lauder Skincare

Advanced Night Repair Serum: This serum still holds the #1 spot for ‘best serum’ amongst its contenders. It’s designed to help repair skin cells and nourish the skin and that’s exactly what it does. If you’re gonna try one product from the line, make it this one.

Very light in texture, the serum goes on smoothly and dries down without any oily residue. It also gives the skin an instant firming effect.

I can see why this serum is voted the best as it only took couple of nights of use and I could already see a smoothing effect on my skin. By the end of week 2, my skin tone was much more even, pores less visible and I was literally glowing!

My sister pretty much sees me everyday and even she noticed the change within days. Needless to say, she too has now switched over to Estee Lauder.

Advanced Night Repair Eye: The jury is still out on this eye cream, only because I’m hopelessly devoted to my Fresh Black Tea Eye Cream that I can’t seem to part with it.

The Advanced Night Repair Eye has the same ingredient concept as the Night Repair Serum; so if you’re after an eye cream within the range, I would still recommend you give it a try.

There are two other eye products within this line: Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum or Advanced Night Repair Eye Matrix

Revitalizing Supreme Plus Anti-Age Cream: Every now and then, my skin goes through a phase where it needs that extra moisture. A trial size of this cream was in the gift-with-purchase bag and I fell in love with how soft and plump it made my skin; so I bought the full size jar.

I use this cream on its own or along with the Night Repair Serum depending on how much moisture my skin needs at the time. It’s also great for fine lines, wrinkles, pores or dryness. This cream provides all the nurturing components without the heavy feel.

Admittedly, I don’t do much to my skin during daytime, except cleanse and apply a SPF moisturizer. This is where the Day Wear SPF 25 Moisture Cream comes into play.

This gel/cream moisturizer is super light weight, oil free and packed with anti-oxidants to help protect and nourish the skin.

It forms a thin veil and dries down which doesn’t interfere with makeup application. And of course most importantly, it provides SPF 25 coverage which is key when protecting the skin from harmful rays.

The Day Wear range consists of many other products with different levels of SPF which you can check out here

I exfoliate once a week, I have some mild pigmentation I’d like to keep at bay, and I’m a sucker for any product that can instantly transform my skin. So, the following products are my additional extras based on my specific concerns and needs.

The products in the Estee Lauder skincare range can be mixed and matched so it’s best to customize your collection according to your own needs.

Estee Lauder Skincare

Revitalizing Supreme+ Instant Refinishing Facial: This is an exfoliating scrub designed to slough away dead skin cells and polish the skin. Initially, I used it twice a week as recommended but I found this to be too much as I developed some dry spots on my cheeks. I’ve since dropped it down to once a week and I’m much happier with the results.

It brightens the skin and gives it a polished look instantly. It’s particularly effective when I follow up with the Revitalizing Supreme+ Anti Ageing Cream as they’re from the same line; and the cream soothes and seals the skin after exfoliation.

Advanced Night Repair Recovery Ampoules: These tiny little gel capsules were also included in my initial gift-with-purchase pack. The consultant at the counter mentioned they could be used along with the Night Repair Serum as a “booster” for stressed skin.

We all go through phases where factors such as hormonal changes during PMS, dehydration due to illness or travel; or even missing a few days of our regular skincare regime takes a toll on our skin. These ampoules are like instant skin transformers and I only use them as needed.

I must admit, I wasn’t too crazy about the oily feel of this product at first, but when I woke up like I’ve just been given an intense facial treatment after just one night of use, I literally ran back to get a full size jar.  And yes you can still use them even if you have oily skin.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Intensive Recovery Ampoules

Enlighten Dark Spot Correcting Serum: This is the latest addition to my collection. Over the past couple of years, I developed mild pigmentation spots on my cheeks. They’re quite faint, but seeing as I’ve been so happy with all the products in the Estee Lauder range, I wanted to give this serum a try – which is specifically designed for brightening and evening out skin tone.

I only had this product for 3 weeks and I know spots can take some time to fade. I’ve also been alternating it with my other nightly serums and creams depending on my skin’s needs, so I think I need to be more consistent and patient with this product before I can report on a noticeable difference.

I know that was a lot of information but I wanted to give you as much detail as possible. I’m quite fussy about skincare and I couldn’t be happier with the results since switching over to these products.

If you’ve been considering changing skincare brands, or simply considering Estee Lauder Skincare in general, I can vouch for their products being pretty amazing all round.

I always buy my products from Nordstrom as they have the best Gift-With-Purchase deals. They’re quite generous with the variety and size of the products they include in these packs, which is a great way to try and discover new favorites.

Hi Sarah wanted to know what your best skin care regimen would be for extremely dry skin I can’t wear makeup because it flakes and I would love to feel pretty again I appreciate the advice in advance really looking for something that will work that I can also apply makeup after thanks so much hope to hear from you soon

Sarah February 6, 2020 - 4:43 am

Hi Sophia, thank you for your message!
When it comes to skin concerns, I usually attend to 3 different areas: Internal, skincare and makeup.

INTERNAL: Given your concern is dry skin, first and foremost, I would increase daily water intake (usually an average of 8 glasses/day). It not only helps flush out toxins but also keeps skin hydrated. This alone can make a great difference in how your skin behaves.
I would also recommend taking collagen supplements. There are many brands which offer collagen in powder, liquid or tablet form, both in bovine (bone) or marine based formulas depending on your dietary preferences. I take the Neocell brand which has been great in keeping my skin supple and hydrated.

SKINCARE: If you’re particularly interested in the Estee Lauder range, they have a line for dry skin which consists of the daily routine of cleanser, toner, serum and moisturiser but I would recommend visiting a counter so they can analyse your skin and suggest a combination of these products based on your individual needs.

When it comes to other brands and products, the most important product addition to your routine that will help combat the flaky skin is exfoliants or products that contain BHA (which again is a form of exfoliant). Dry skin tends to be prone to flakiness so using products that take away the dead skin will solve pretty much all the issues you’re having with your makeup too.

I’ve been using Paula’s Choice 2% BHA liquid for years and I cannot recommend it enough. It’s designed for all skin types, gentle enough to use on a daily basis and really helps keep that dry flaky skin at bay.
In terms of more traditional exfoliants which are also hydrating, Fresh Beauty sugar scrub is gentle enough and leaves a beautiful film of nourishing oils on the skin which makes everything look glowy and plump.

As for serums and moisturizers, another star product is Hyaluronic Acid. Hyaluronic Acid helps skin retain water so it keeps it hydrated. There are many different hyaluronic acid products out there at different price points. I, again, use the Paula’s Choice Hyaluronic Acid as I get to control how much I add into my skincare routine – mixed into my night serum or moisturizer.
Next up, for dry skin is masks. I swear by Summer Fridays Jet Lag mask. It’s a multi-use product which you can use as moisturizer, as primer before makeup or as a mask.

MAKEUP: Once you find your key skincare ingredients, I recommend applying a hydrating primer (like Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask), or a moisturizer before you apply your makeup. Massage these products really well into the skin and let it settle for 10mins before you apply your makeup. This time frame will allow the skincare products to work into your skin so your makeup will apply smoothly and won’t move, melt or flake away.

I’m sorry about the lengthy reply. Skincare is such a personal thing and there’s so many options out there. It wouldn’t be right of me to just recommend a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution.

I hope this gives you a starting point and please feel free to message back if you have any questions :) xo

Spot on with the Advanced Night Repair Serum, I have used it off and on for years, and nothing else compares to is. Yes, it can seem pricey, but it’s well worth it. What was your end result with the Advanced Night Eye Repair? I’ve tried it, but didn’t really see a difference. Worth it or now? Do you suggest something different?

Sarah October 19, 2018 - 3:41 pm

Hi Karolyn, thank you for your sharing your love for the serum too :) I stopped using the Eye Cream simply because I didn’t see any difference or noticeable results either. I’m too attached to my Fresh Black Tea Eye Cream so I highly recommend it if you’re after a good eye cream :)

Great post! Bit off topic but what camera or editing apps do you use for your photos? They always look so amazing! Thank you! xo

Sarah September 1, 2017 - 12:38 pm

Hi Ellie, I used to take them with a DSLR camera but the file sizes were too big to upload to the site so I just use my iPhone 6.
As for editing, if needed, I adjust lighting to reflect true colors of the products and put my watermark on the photos. I usually do that with Photoshop. Hope that helps :)

Jessica September 1, 2017 - 8:20 am

I’ve been using the ANR serum for 5 years and I swear by it. I’m curious about the ampoules now. Maybe a new favorite on the horizon for me :)))

Sarah September 1, 2017 - 12:40 pm

Hi Jessica, sounds like you’re already a devout fan of the serum so I think you would love the ampoules. Let me know if you try them :)

Sienna September 1, 2017 - 6:26 am

Hi Sarah thank you for this helpful information. I’m using Ole Henricksen but I want to change to a different brand. My pores are a problem and I want more glow like you. Which products should I look at in Estee Lauder?

Sarah September 1, 2017 - 12:47 pm

Hi Sienna, I recommend the Advanced Night Repair Serum to everyone cos it’s suitable for all skin types and it helps achieve that smooth glowing skin. As for pores, Estee Lauder has a specific serum called Idealist Pore Minimizing Refinisher – designed to reduce pores. I think these two items would be a good starting point for your needs. You can visit an EL counter to to find out more about these products :)

Bianca September 1, 2017 - 4:50 am

This is perfect timing cos I was looking at the night repair serum just last week. Do you think it’ll be OK for combination skin? Sometimes I get dryness and oily t zone so I wasn’t sure. This post got me excited to try them now

Sarah September 1, 2017 - 12:48 pm

Hi Bianca, the serum is suitable for all skin types so yes you can definitely use it. Let me know what you think of it :)
