Tarte Rainforest After Dark Palette

by Sarah

Tarte Cosmetics had an amazing run lately releasing one great palette after the other. I did a “new-launches” post here including links to where you can get them, if you’re interested.

My sister was already after the Tartelette palette but when she saw my post, she absolutely fell in love with the Rainforest After Dark Palette. So when she purchased them both, I embraced the perks of having a sister who loves makeup too and “borrowed” her Rainforest After Dark palette to review and swatch for you guys. To be honest…I don’t know that I want to give it back :)

*I didn’t do the Tartelette palette as it’s been around for a while but let me know if you’d like a review/swatch post on that too

Tarte’s Rainforest After Dark is not a new release, it was a limited edition palette which they recently brought back due to high demand. And I’m glad they did cos it’s a gorgeous palette all round!

With a wood-grain-finish compact featuring a stunning gold embossed snake and a purple gem stone on its head, this palette practically has everything you need to create a full face of makeup. As well as a full size of Tarte’s cult favorite Amazonian clay blush, there’s the ever so popular Park Ave Princess bronzer, a highlighter and of course 6 super soft and pigmented eyeshadows we’ve come to expect from Tarte. And yes…every product contains Amazonian clay which has been Tarte’s star ingredient since day one.

Initially (at least looking at the promo pictures online), I thought this palette had cool-toned colors. But now that I got to see it for myself, it’s much warmer than I first thought – which is a good thing due my (and my sister’s) personal color preference.

The Champagne highlighter, and the eyeshadows: Make a Mauve, Plum Away With Me and Up to No Gold are the only colors within the palette which are shimmery. The rest, including the blush are all matte and you guys know I love palettes which feature a good balance of shimmer/matte colors so this gets a big thumbs up from me.

The bronzer Park Ave Princess is a favorite amongst Tarte customers, though it’s a bit too light for my NC35 skin and I had to build it up at least 3-4 layers to get the intensity above. If you have similar skin tone to me, you can still make use of this bronzer as a transition or base color for your eyeshadows.

The quality of all the colors are amazing! The blush really lives up to Tarte’s Amazonian clay blushes being some of the best in the market and it gives off the prettiest rosy-pink shade. Furthermore, the eyeshadows can be used wet so you can easily transform the dark brown eyeshadow into an eyeliner or intensify the shimmer shades for dramatic night time looks.

At $38 and being limited edition again, I’d highly recommend you add this stunning palette to you collection.

Trying not to spend a lot of money…..I have the bonvoyage pallete, do you think Its similar enough to the rainforest after dark other than having the highlighter and bronzer? Loving the look of the RAF pallete. Thanks for the review

Hi Vesa, thank you so much! I too have the Bon Voyage palette which I reviewed some time back. To be honest, though there are some colors within the eyeshadows that could pass of as being similar, the concept of the two palettes are completely different. Rainforest After Dark palette is very compact and convenient and the inclusion of blush, bronzer and the highlighter pretty much takes care of everything you could need to do the whole face. I love my Bon Voyage set but if I had to choose, I would go with Rainforest After Dark. It’s just a great all-in-one compact :) xx
