Brands have been dropping their holiday collections earlier than usual this year. Some are doing pre-releases, others are already in full holiday mode. Either way, I know there’s a flood of products out there and it can get quite overwhelming.
I started my shopping with some Tarte products. I’m always a fan of their holiday collections as they offer a great variety of products for the price. First in line is the Pretty Paintbox Collector’s Makeup Case…
Tarte Pretty Paintbox Makeup Case – Holiday 2016 Edition
In all honesty, I wasn’t planning on getting any Tarte sets this year – only because I have quite a few palettes from them, I just received my Amazonian Clay Blush Palette (which I’ll do a review of soon) so I was thinking I’m pretty much set now. Apparently not! cos when I saw the Pretty Paintbox Set, I knew I had to have it.
Tarte is renowned for their natural/neutral colors, so it’s not unusual to see some colors repeat throughout their different palettes especially with eyeshadows. Other than containing pretty much everything you could need to do a full face, what really drew me in with this particular set – is the range of eyeshadow colors. Tarte has added in some gorgeous warm wine/burgundy tones in there as well as rich coppers and chocolates and much needed darks. It’s a great balance of colors and finishes along with the expected staple colors.

This palette is in the form of a book. The case itself is covered in a bright orange/pink/red psychedelic print fabric with gold trimming. Considering the amount of product it contains, it’s actually quite compact.
There’s a small compartment with a full size mirror which cases a mini Glossy Lip Paint, a So Fine liquid liner pen and a mini Lash Paint mascara. The plastic insert which houses these additional products comes out – which means it can be used to store other pencils, shadows, mascaras …whatever you can fit in there really.

There are 24 eyeshadows in this palette, including mattes, shimmers and micro metallics; 4 Amazonian Clay powders including a blush, highlighter, shimmery warm bronzer and a cool matte bronzer. And as mentioned before, the additional mini lip paint, mini mascara and full size liquid liner.
The color range of the powders are really well thought out. The matte cool toned bronzer is perfect for contouring, the peachy blush and the subtle champagne highlighter are universal and the liquid liner is rich black with one of the finest sponge tips I’ve used.
Admittedly, the eyeshadow pans are smaller than the previous years’ palettes. They each contain 0.031oz/0.87g of product but the 0.158 oz/4.47g of product with the Amazonian Clay powders makes up for this in my opinion.
The case contains 24 eyeshadows with matte, shimmer and micro metallic finishes in neutral shades
Mini Glossy Lip Paint in Ovbi; Mini Lash Paint Mascara in Black; Full size So Fine Liquid Liner in Black
Peachy/Coral Blush, Champagne Highlighter, Shimmer Warm Bronzer, Cool Matte Bronzer
If you travel often, this kit will have you set for your entire trip. I can’t even begin to list the number of different looks that can be created.
I know Tarte has released different holiday palettes via different stores, so be sure to look around for what suits your needs. However, having “studied” the other kits, in terms of variety and price, I find the Pretty Paintbox Set to be a winner hands down.
I will do a full review of my other must-have holiday item from Tarte – the Amazonian Clay Blush Palette soon but til then, here are some other holiday sets you might be interested in…
