Tan it up!

by Sarah

Uggh! The weather is really wearing me down of late, especially the ones where clouds and gray skies take over. I think about sun and sand and glowing bronze/tan colors.  So…how can we find a good balance between dream and reality on such days?

Enter the color: Tan.  Tan is such a versatile shade. It has a comforting warmth to it which is perfect for fall/winter, but it also represents bright sunny summer days. It can go from a sprinkle of cinnamon on a pumpkin latte to glistening over the skin on a perfect day at the beach…to say the least.

So on today’s post, I wanted to show you guys how you can incorporate tan into any outfit or look, no matter the season.

There’s no denying the flexibility of denim, especially a deep dark blue color. Coupled with tan, this color combo creates the most amazing balance between cool and warm. Tan colored boots or booties are a great staple for fall/winter wardrobes cos even if you stick to a basic color family (such as black, navy, green) for clothing items, adding a pair of tan boots, a belt, a scarf or a bag will instantly lift the whole look. I compiled this set to highlight how the hints of tan thrown in the mix in the form of accessories or accents (aka the stripes of the top) can make a denim mini into the most amazing fall/winter outfit. A deep chocolate brown coat can also take this look from warm to completely cozy for those freezing cold days.

Tan colored sandals are a ‘must’ in any summer wardrobe. They just go with everything! For this particular set, I wanted to show how a subtle base color such as cream can be transformed using tan colored accessories. If you imagine the same dress with nude shade accessories, they would fade away; bright colors such as red/pink/blue would look fine but they would completely take the focus off the beautiful detailing on the dress; black would look too harsh etc…you get my point :) Tan however, holds its own yet compliments the dress so subtly…it’s harmony all round!

Of course we shouldn’t forget, if all else fails, we can always add a hint of bronze/tan our makeup too. Glowing bronze cheeks, a hint of bronze sparkle on the eyes or a touch of bright on the lips is also a great trick to combat the cloudy gray days.

Below are some of my favorites including a super quick and easy eye makeup I did recently; Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector – which I have a review post coming up on this amazing line soon; and an easy ‘all you need’ pack from Tarte – if you’re unsure where to begin ;)
