Festival Beauty Essentials

by Sarah

Yesterday I did a festival fashion post but of course, fashion and beauty usually go hand in hand. Sweltering heat, exposure to the sun, drinking and partying can all take a toll on our skin and our usual makeup tricks may fail…drastically.

So I put together this Festival Beauty Essentials post so you can breeze through your day/night without worrying about your face. These products are also great when you’re on vacation.

Festival Beauty Essentials

The most important thing when attending long haul festivals/outdoor events is hydration – both for your body and your skin. I cannot stress enough how crucial it is to drink plenty of water but our skin still needs an extra helping hand in terms of moisture and protection.

Although everyone should do what they feel comfortable with, it’s best to keep base makeup to a minimum. SPF protection is very important and a tinted moisturiser with a high grade SPF will not only protect the skin, but it will give just enough coverage to even out skin tone. If you feel you have problem areas such as pigmentation, acne scars or dark circles under the eyes, spot treating these areas with a long wearing concealer will keep your look fuss-free.

Setting sprays come in very handy on occasions like these. Rather than applying and re-applying powder which could end up very cakey and uncomfortable, spray the face with a long wearing setting spray and you won’t have to worry about your makeup moving or wearing off for hours.

Natural looks are easier to manage on outings like these but thanks to the amazing formulas, you can add as much or little color to your look as you wish. You just need to look for the magic words: Long wearing. A simple smudged eyeliner/shadow stick along the top and bottom lash lines, paired with your favorite mascara in a waterproof version will ensure your eyes are on point at all times.

Same thing goes for lips and cheeks. A multi-purpose long wearing stain will add a gorgeous flush of color both to your lips and cheeks. Best thing about these type of products is they’re buildable so you can re-apply to intensify the color for night time or leave it as natural as you wish.

And of course it’s always good to be prepared without having to carry half your makeup kit around with you. A small pack of oil blotting papers, makeup remover Q-tips, a pack of facial wipes and pure water spray will keep you looking fresh no matter how hard you party.

Urban Decay ‘All Nighter’ Setting Spray is such a great product for those long days & nights dancing at music festivals! I also love keeping face mists and blotting sheets in my bag as well. And, of course, a good lip balm & mascara is a must in my look!

One of my favorite tricks for outdoor, long-wear makeup is baby powder! I sprinkle a tiny bit into my powder foundation and buff it all over. You can also press it on top of liquid foundation applications. The trick is not to use too much, otherwise you end up looking like a ghost!
